SOLDIERS DISCHARGES.
NO CHARACTER ENTRY, No character entry is now made on the certificate cf discharge received by New Zealand soldiers Jon their discharge ;from the Espedifionary Force. As a number of soldiers hare complained of this deficiency it is advisable to for their benefit, and that of prospective employers who might expect some indication ©f character on this document, that New |Zeaiand, in common with Jlhe Imperial and Australian Defence Authorities, abandoned the character entry on the discharges issued immediately on demobilisation, experience haviua shown (hat there is great “difficulty ih justly assessing character from the’ available records, and Sin the absence of the soldier’s commanding officer. The certificate of discharge |is sent to the soldier’s New Zealand address within fourteen days |of disembarkation, "and must be r carried by him if he travels after I discharge, under the terms ‘of the tour wests free railway pass, as a precaution against the ®use cf this valiab'e privilegeiby those who are not entitled to it.
