AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. Wellington, Feb 28 The cricket match Auckland v Wellington, commenced to-day on the Basin Reserve in ideal weather, Auckland won the toss and batted. The first wicket fell at 68, Horspool being l.b.w. to Patrick, his total being 28. At the luncheon ajdournment the score was 184 for one wicket —Horspool 28, Midlane not out 46, Hemus not out 55. Extras 6 The Northerners played cautiously all day, and the rate of scoring was slow. Against the careful batting of the Aucklanders, Wellington set an attack that was not strong, with the resnlt that on a good wicket the visitors scored well, The partnership of the day was that of Hemus and Midlane, who notched 229 while associated. Twp centuries were obtained—Hemus 136 and Midlaue 126. Wnen stamps were’drawn, Auck laud had scored 434 for seven wick eta.
