NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS.
PROTEST AGAINST BOLSHEVISM. Per Press Association. Wellington, February 33. At the annual conference of newspaper proprietors at Wellington yesterday, it was resolved unanimously: That this Association in general meeting assembled, having under its consideration the public utterances of Mr Robert Semple, M.P., on the anarchist principles "of the Bolshevist and similar organisations, as reported in the Christchurch papers, considers it to be its duty (to record its emphatic protest against the support by public men of doctrines so inimical to the people of New Zealand and to the welfare of the Empire. It is especially to be deplored that man who are representative’ of the people in Parliament should so far forget the duty they owe *o the saner section of their constituents, and by their unpatriotic utterances endeavour to create a spicit of disloyaty in a community which has shown its patriotism in a marked degree, and whose members must resent the dissemination of the unworthy and dangerous doctrines referred to, ELECTION OF OFFICERS. < ... V-'} Wellington, Febuary 35 ' The annual meetings of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Assocation concluded to-night. Consideration was given to the the advertising committee’s report, and other matters affecting the business side of newspapers. The chairman referred to the forthcoming World’s tress Congress, to be held in Sydney in November next. The question of representation from this Association was deferred until fuller Information is to hand. Me Selig was re-elected President. Other officers elected were: Vicepresident, J Ooombes; executive, Cecil Leys, H Horton, O Earle, L Blundell, T C List F Pirani, E Abbey Jones, and R Bell; advertising committee, P Selig, J Coombes, B Abbey Jones, W Weston, W J Blundell and G C Codlin; postal and Pailiamentary committee I* Blundell, 0 Earle. G Dixon and F Pirani ; labour and awards committee, F Pirani, P Bond, B Bell, A Saudo a".d W O Weston; secretary and treasurer, L J Berry; auditor, J J seaman. Messrs Seymour and Onrtayne waited upon the Assocation in the interests of the work of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, They submitted information in regard to their proposed repatriation scheme, and asked for the support of the newspaper proprietors. In reply to the deputation, Mr Selig expressed the thanks of the Association for their attendance and the sympathy of the proprietors with the objects of the scheme.
