DISTRICT PATRIOTIC SOCIETY From Onr Own Correspondent A meeting of the committee Q{ the above Society was held in Town Board Office on Monday evening, there being present: Messtj Winchester (chairman), Johnston (secretary), Shaw, Turnbull,'Oliver Galloway, Stuckey and McOaw. 1 The minutes of previous meeting were confirmed. The confirmation of the minnt es makes'rnle 8 a,y The trustees may from time to flta a invest any of the funds of tbe Society not required for immediate use in such manner as trustees are, by law authorised to invest trust monies, and rule 15—the property and funds of the Society shall be vested in three trustees, who shall bold them for the lawful p nr , poses of the Society, and subject to' the lawful direction of the Society. The trustees shall be Messrs D q_ McKay. Turnbull, Walter Parvis Shaw, and Geoffrey Giffard Oliver. If any trustee dies, remains out of the district for mouths, desires to be discharged, refuses to cct, 0 t becomes incapable of acting, then, and in such case, tire Socletty shall appoint a new trustee. Correspondence wbs read and dealt with as follows From R, H, Liddicoat, Te Poke, stating that at the time of writing he was still in j n . different health ami requiring financial assistance. —Grant of £ls voted. From L. Musketry, Chau, asking for a loan of £l5O ou a bard of dairy COW s.—Granted, subject to the trustees’ approval of deed to Jbe predated bv Musketry'’a solicitoi j B Levin. From Chns. Hazell, asking for t loan to enable him the better to set up in business.—The request was most sympathetically discussed, and it was resolved that as Mr Hazell really belonged to the Feilding district, the Society there be urged to advance the money, the local Society promising to assist Mr Hazell to attain success in every legitimate way. It was reported that Mr Michael Oollis was still in u vorv poor stale of health. He had never recovered from the effects of treuen fever and when attacked by the “flue” wni unable to fight his own battle as successfully as otherwise would have been the ctse.— It was resolved to grant him £BO and make a strong recommendation to the authorities that his case be reconsidered.
The proposed erection of a fallen soldiers’ memorial was brought in by resolution of the Torn Board, and it was decided to erect such, design and site to be de'ermined later. Messrs Winchester, Turuhall and MeCaw were asked to obtain general information, formulate t scheme and report, * The following accounts were passed, fir payment; Mrs McCaldoa £5 10s, secretary’s salary £5. The meeting adjourned.
A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated at the re-idence of Sit William John McOoaxd, Upper Ka whs tan, on Wednesday morning last The contracting parties were Miss Ellen McCoarrl end Harold Alfred Wildbore Ihe bride, who Was most becomingly aressed in travelling costume and bat, war given away by ber father, and was attended by her sister, Sarah, as bridesmaid, while the bridegroom was supported oy bis brother Arthur. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. McOaw, who, as is bis wont, gave the young pair some sage advice. After breakfast the young people left by motor to join the 11 a m. train“at Manga weka en route tor their new home at Levin, Manewatu. At the close of Mr Gascoigne’s valedictory at the vicarage on Friday evening the vicar presented Miss Nellie JDawkin with a bynih book, in recognition of her faithful worn in the Sabbath School, and a ss incentive to contianance in the good work.
