RAILWAYMEN'S DEMANDS
WILL WAIT TILL MARCH. FOR MINISTER'S PROPOSALS. Per Press Asssociation Auckland, Feb M The largest meeting of locomotive tnen ever held in Auckland, after hearing the report of the delegare to the conference with the Minister of Railways, passed a resolution argeeing to wait till March to hear the Minister’s proposals, when the matter %ould have to be finally settled in accordance with the demands ot the men, who were utterly tired of the present procrastination. They wished to state Emphatically thatno proposition w'aull receive any consideration thstt/did not provide recompense for night work and abolition of the system of “acting” men and restriction in days of wages. The meeting also placed on record a protest 'egainss the long hours worked, men being repeatedly ■®n duty from 16 tto'2o honrs without a break for meals. It is stated that fin a secret ballot 'in districts with an aggregation df 850 me;', every member voted foe direct action if necessary.
