AN ARBIBRATION COURT MUDDLE.
———o Per Press Association Wellington. Feb 2-1 A discussion regarding the powers of the Arbitration Court under the Act of last session occurred at today’s sitting of the Oonrt. Mr M J Reardon contended that tb« Court was bound to taka notice of the cost of living. That was mandatory. Justice Stringer said the Conrt itself did not know what the Act meant. It seemed fntile to go on increasing wages which only increased the cost of living so that workers were left where they were before. The Court could not control the cost of living;
Mr rveardou said that if Parliament had shirked its duty the Court must do its duty. Justice Stringer: Until somethiug breaks.
Mr Reardon. Yes, until Parliament sees the absolute futility of its legislation.
