SEMPLE AND BOLSHEVISM.
Per Press Association Oriristchurcb, February 21. Certain statements reported to have been made by Mr R. Semple, M P., in the Colosseum last Satur day night, were discussed at the Presbyterian General Assembly today.
The Rev. W. Scorg, speaking on Church union, said : ‘ ‘Men can stand np in public halls in Cnristchurch and are not ashamed to proclaim themselves Bolshevist. They are not ashamed of it.facd onr'country in its laws and legislation, is so weak that it is either afraid or ashamed to put the men out of the way. What Tdid the newspapers tell yon was the logical outcome of Bolsevism.” he continued. ‘That women are to he pnbiic property ! And these men proclaim it here, and they are allowed io dray/ £3OO a year and to call themselves membars of Parliament. ’’The Jast reanrk was greeted with cries of “Shame !” The Rev J. Dixon, to illustrate his remarks on “Democracy in the Church, ” said, “Does anybody say that Mr Semple, M.P , represented the 70,000 ngistered trades unionists in this country? I say no,’’ The question was answered by cries of “No!’’ Mr R Logan protested against Mr Semple’a name being introduced, saying that politics had nothing to do with the Assembly’s discussions, and that it was s Christchurch affair,' and not a Dominion one.
