KITCHENER’S LOVE STORY
NOT A WOMAN-HATER. HE LOVED A SCOTTISH LASSIE London, February 9. The tradition that Kitchener was a woman-hater collapses with the disclosure that he passionately loved a beautiful Scottish girlfCaiollne Hutchinson, whom he met in London in 1868, when about to enter the military academy. Mutual devotion was entirely uninterrupted. The lady at first refused marriage on the ground that she had a bed-ridden aunt suffering from paralysis of the throat, and she assisted her fts nurse. Subsequently she admitted that her second reason was that a great man required a woman accustomed to a lofty station. Kitchener constantly visited the lady and corresponded in affectionate terms. Miss Hutchinson died in London on February 33th, 1917.^
