MARTON PATRIOTIC SHOP.

The following is the report for the period from April Ist, 1918, to January 31st, 1919. At a general meeting held on April 4th 'the report and balance-sheet for the year ending March Slst, 1918, was received. The old committee and officials were re-appointed. The week made vacant by Torakina having withdrawn from the shop, was tilled by a general week to be contributed to by all and managed by two members of the committee in turn. This arrangement proved only fairly successful. On May 2nd Mrs McGregor’s resignation from the committee was received with regret. Mrs O. Neumann was appointed by the district to take her pines. In Jnno Mrs Findlay was temporarily appointed to take Mi: s Simpson’s place on the committee owing to the latter’s ill-health. In September, the committee lost another of its members in Mrs McKenzie, her place being taken by Mrs Purnell. *t a general meeting held on November 7th it was lesolved to assist the Rangitikei Patriotic Society with a Convalescent Home for Soldiers in this district, but the resolution automatically ended with the Government’s decision that an institution of the bind was not necessary here. The work of the shop was susnended during the epidemic of irifinenzr, and following close npon this the officer in charge of war funds Intimated to the secretary that no further effort .was necessary aa the Government have a sufficient sum in hand for all requirements, Thereupon a general meeting was called for January 7th, and it wra resolved to immediately wind up the shop aud to reorganise should the necessity arise. The balance in baud, [together with the proceeds from the sale of the shop fittings, was allotted to the Rotorua Sanatorium and the Wanganui and Lowry Bay Convalescent Homes in equal shares The committee kindly allowed the secretary the use of the shop for the unexpired portion of the lease to assist the Martun Returned SoP diera’ Olnb. An auction sale of the shop fittings, etc , was held on January 27tn, Mr Stevens kindly conducting the sale free of charge. The thanks of the committee are due to those helpers and patrons whs have assisted in making the shop the unqualified success it has undoubtedly been since its inception on December Ist, 1915.
