MOVING EAST OF CANAL DU NORD A SPLENDID RECORD OF ADVANCE Aust. and N.Z Cable Association, London, Sept; 5. At 485 in the evening a French communique reports that during the night we maintained contact with the enemy rearguards, and advanced east of the Canal du Nord, and in the direction of the Aisne. East of Nesle we crossed the Somme Canal in the region of Yoyeuues and Oifoy ; farther south we passed Hombleux, Esmary-Hillon aud Flavy le Melleux, and carried our lines north of Gniscard to the Berlancourt. Between the Aileftje and the Aisne we carried Clamency, Braye, and Missv-sur-Aisne. Last night we repulsed two violent counter attacks at Mont Des Tombs, east of Leuilly, and maintained jiositions on the Vesle front. Franco-American troops are on the cresfcf the heights dominating the Aisne and extending our action still further. We also crossed the Yesle between Les Yantaeux and Jounchery.
