The weather is line but wintry,,for the opening of the Grand National meeting. There is a large attendance, and the going is good. |Results:—

Scratched Turebua and Vascular. "Won by three lengths, half n a length between second and third. Time, 3min. 33 4-5 secs.
Grand National Hurdles, 2jk miles.—Kauri King 1, Sir Solo 3, Art 3. All started. Kauri King was in charge before the last hurdle. He won easily by three lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 4miu. 4S 3-ssecs. Avonhead Handicap, G furlongs.— Hastie 1, Silver and Black 2, dingo 3. Scratched Ardmore and Whiro, Won by a length. Time, Imin. 1G 4-usecs.
| Grand Katonai Steeplechase, 3C miles. —3 St. Elum 1, 7 Waimai 2, 1 Master Strowau '.5. Also -started a Grib. G Collector 4 Cnaliton 3 Yel“ low and Black, J 1 Rita 9 Merry Lad, 8 Zarkoma, 10 Stone Ginger. Yellow and Black lost his rider at the first fence. Rita, Crib and Coalition fell, and Collector refused to jump the Kennels double the second time round. Won by two lengths. Time 7m in. 13 l-ssec.
Enfield Steeplechase.—4 Arlington 1, 3 Master Hamilton 3, 5 Paremata 3. Also started: 1 Moddite and 3 Bore. The t??o last named fell. Won palling ' up, by a dozen lengths. Time, 4 min. 13-1 osec. Au enquiry was held into H. Lorrigan’s handling of Master Hamilton, au hi« explanation was accepted. Winter Cup, 1 mile. —9 Bedford 1, 1G 5 Yolo, 1 Form Up, 3 [John Barleycorn, 20 Lady Louisa, 8 Varnish, 1 f Ascalaphus, 1 All Over, 23 Mui iiplication, 13 Thaddeus, 17 King Star, 19 Sir Agnes, 3 Oardrona, 7 Hydros, til ß 'Majestikoff, 14 Sardinia, 23 Multame, 13 : Fleethain, 31 Hiere, 13 Eiltess, 0 Whiro. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin.4 3- secs. Sumner Handicap.—lo Leaping Burn, 1, 5 Warform 3, 1 Ardmore 3. Also started: 8 King of the Valley, 3 Primato, 6 Kio,’9 Kimboiton 13,. The totalisator handled £60,401, as compared with £51,337 on the corresponding day last year.
