HIDES AND SKINS.
AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. Wellington, March A A conference between members of the Ministry and representatives of farmers, freezing companies, tanners, and others interested, was held to-day to consider the changes proposed by the Imperial Government in the requisition of slips wool, hides and sheepskins. No change in price is proposed regarding slipe wool. The changes proposed affect hides and skins, and will mea® a reduction of “the price in New 'Zealand. An important point at issue is the date from which the new prices are to operate. If they come into operation immediately the loss will be suffered by those who bought live stock or hides and skins on the present ruling values for export. The question of the date on which the new prices ©perato has still to be settled between the New Zealand Government and the Imperial authorities. The different sections of tie conference separated into committees to discuss the point® on which they are specially interested, f and the decision come to were submitted to the conference. At the conclusion of the business, Air Massej T said the deleagtes had adopted a most reasonable attitude, aud the opinions expressed would be very valuable to the New Zealand and Imperial Governments in their negotiations.
