FLOODS ON EAST COAST.

FARMERS LOSE HEAVILY.

RAILWAY TRAFFIC INTERRUPTED.

A storm is raging along the coast with heavy rain and the rivers are hooded. The Waipawa river overflowed its bunks at midnight, and a portion of the [flats are inundated. Considerable damage has been done to maize and other crops. Precautions taken will lessen tho losses of stock. Railway traffic is interrupted. The sen has moderated considerably to-day at Napier. The Arahn.ra landed passengers at the breakwater this morning. Another steamer is still out in the bay. Tho Ngaruroro aud Inaehuri are, overflowing their banks at Waimrua and Meeaneo respectively. The Ngaruroro rose very rapidly last night. Settlers appear to have been prepared for the flood. The weather cleared locally at noon, but tho rivers are rising still. but as the sea is moderating a serious flood is not likely.
