TRIAL OF BOLD PASHA.

POLITICIANS INYOLYED. KING OP SPAIN’S MESSAGE. Paris, Feb. 11. • At the. trial of 8010 Pnsba his former wife, speaking with emotion, described meeting 8010 at Bordeaux. She accompanied him to Buenos Aires, where they were married. 8010 later decamped with her jewels. She forgave him, but he again robbed her of money and jewels.. She found him affluent m 1917. ■ He begged her not to create a scandal, and ('gave her £IOOO and promissory notes for £ISOO as partial compensation.

Bolo’s wife, the next witess, was greatly agitated. She described 8010 as a model husband and fond of home life. He devoted himself to war charities, and offered to assist the ex-Khedive of Egpyt, who was; in straitened circumstances. 8010 was in tears during nis wife’s eivdence. M. Oaillaus, the ex-Prime Minister who is also under suspicion of having had dealings with the enemy, gave evidence. He said he had. known 8010 intimately since 1911. They conferred after Bolo’s return from America because witness was interested in Mr Wilson’s light for the Presidency. Cailiaux denied knowing the ex-Khedive. He admitted having had relations with 8010 after the present charges had been made, .because he considered it would be wrong to abandon him in his trouble.

A curious episode occured later at the trial. A statement from the King of Spain was read in Court. It refened to an audience which the King granted 8010 Pasha and Senator ChadesjHumbert in October, The King’s statement says;—“Senator Humbert spoke about certain French politicians, especially M. Cailiaux, and said that M. Ciullaux held me in high esteem. I replied that I was surprised, as I had not thought that M, Cailiaux was a friend of mine. Senator Humbert appealed to 8010 Pasha for corroboration of his statement. ”

The King adds: “I gathered that Senator Humbert’s idea was to reconcile me to M. Cailiaux. My impression was that M. Cailiaux was to return to power and desired to efface the unpleasant impression he had made upon me a few mouths before. ’’
