Mr Jeffries reports that Gothas on the 2(>tb dropped a hundred bombs on Venice. Many fell round the Doge’s pdace and the Bridge of Sighs, which fortunately escaped. The Rialto bridge, however, was destroyed, and two convents were struck. f lt is calculated that onethird of the houses are now ruined. Obviously the Huns iuteucLto destroy ttiemaguificent jewels of Venetian architecture.
