SINKING THE GLENART
A DELIBERATELY BRUTAL OUTRAGE NO FURTHER SURVIVORS. Loudon ,Peb. 28. The Glenart Castle, British Hospital ship, was torpedoed within an area which Germany declared was a free zone, thus constituting, apart from the outrage, a further breach of Germany’s pledges nob to sink hospital ships when outside certain clearly definedjimits. The Gleuart Castle was a complete bleze of light when torpedoed, there being not the least excuse for the German brutalitj r . Scores rushed to the deck, mostly clad only in shirts, trousers, and pyjamas. Those rescued had terrible experiences afloat hi the heavy sea. and worked in relays keeping the boats afloat by bailing. There is little hope of further survivors; the searclFdiscovered only enemy lifeboats, ~ with indications of having been occupied. The Admiralty reports that the sworn statements of two survivors of the Glenart Castle conrlim that she was sunk oy a submarine, which was sighted ten minutes before she w as struck. The ship was in a free area- One hundred j and fifty three, including eight ilurses are missing.
