® The dead weight of the sheep in tiie guessing competition at Wednesday's Show was 1241b5. Mr E. G. Frederick, of Marton, who guessed the correct weight was the winner and Messrs Bishop and O’Leary, of Taihape, tied for second with 12:111)?.
The Wanganui Maori enter! liners gave a first class entertainment in the Town Hail on Tuesday night in aid of the Lady Liverpool Fund and were received by a crowded house. During the interval a flag presented by Mr punch Pine, of Moawhaugo'was put uxj for Suction by Mr Tihema and realised £3O. The total amount raised on behalf of the fund was a shade over £IOO. The luncheon and tea at Wednesday’s Show, which were conducted by the Women’s Working Club, resulted in a profit of over £IOO. This amount goes towards providing comforts “for the lads in the trenches. Another of Tgihape’s boys to make the supreme sacrifice in France is Private John Addis, sou of Mr A. and Mrs D. Addis, of Raukupu. This is the second of Mr Addis’ sons to be killed, a younger brother, Private Bert Addis, being killed in action some six months ago. The news of the death of the second son has come as a severe blow and the whole district will deeply sypm-.thise with the sorrowing 'parents in their great loss. Both brothers were popular young fellows and without' a doubt were two of the finest of the lads who have left Taiha pe.[•"
