ACTIVITY OF FLIERS. SPYING BEHIND GERMAN LINES. London, Fob. 38. Sir Douglas Haig reports; On the 28th the Canadians made a successful! raid at Lens, Hostile artillery is active at Cambrai, La Bassee, Armentieres, and Ypres. Oar artillery engaged infantry and a transport at St. Q.nentin. Britisli aviators made a long distance reconnaissance and bombed railway sidings and junctions at Courtrai and in the Valenciennes district; also aerodromes at Douai. We brought down 15 enemy machines. Eight of ours are missing. We bombed bartacks at Treves and an aerodrome at Met z with good results.

A French communique stages; Our fire stopped the enemy who attempted, after a fierce bombardment, to approach“our new positions south-west of Butte •du Mesnil, in the Champagne. The enemy aeroplanes bombed Nancy last night. Two persons were killed and eleven injured. There are violent artillery actions in the reigon of Butte du Mesnil and on the left bank of the Meuse.
