GERMAN TREATMENT OF PRISONERS.
ENDEAVOUR TO HIDE ATROCITY. Received fob. 20, noon. Peris, Feb. 20. The newspaper L’iJomme Libre states that ' a thousand hostages were selected front prominent French people, includeing refined girls, t-'kcn from their homes and .sent to riobnmnden ennip as a reprisal for air raids. They were exposed to scandalous treatment and ■when thirty girls refused to make socks they were locked up without proper food or light for over a month- -Mattresses, bet! clothes and even woollen underclothing were taken away and they were only role: sed when a Spanish Inspector arrived to visit tb.e camp. The Germans made an elfort to hide the outrage, but the Spaniard learnt the facts.
