MOTOR CARNIVAL.
A LT3TR ALASI AN CHAMPION - SHIP WON BY P. COLEMAN. (Per Press Association.) i Christchurch, Feb. 3-1. The motor carnival was held today in perfect weatner. The proceeds were in aid of the Red JlCross funds, There was a huge crowd present gaud during the afternoon an exhibition of dying was given by the instructor at the Canterbury Aviation School. The following are the results
Light-Weight Handicap, eight miles.—A. Woodman, Christchurch I, J. A. Kartou, Timaru (Ssecs.) 3, R. J. * Jones, Palmerston North (45secs.) 3. Also started: J. Dawber (12secs.). A. Boag (30 secs.), G. J. Mott'at (35secs), F. Howarth (lOOsecs), A. Foden (ilOsccrs), J. Sweeney (ISOsecs), L. Bird (Slsecs). Won comfortably. Time 7.57 3-5.
Heavy-Weight Handicap, ten miles.—H. R. Crawley, Carterton (SOsecs) 1, L. Maugham, Shannon 3. Also :P. Colemin (ser.), E. F. Chinds (12secs), S. W'liitehead (30secs). This race was marred by an'accident and a couple of mishaps. Crawley won in excellent time and only one other man finishing. Time 0.17 4-5. South Island Light-Weight Championship, eight miles. —F. Harworth, Christchurch, J, J. Dawber, Palmerston North, 2, P. A. Foden, Timaru, 3. L. Bird also started. Won by 150 yards. South Island Middle-Weight Championship, ten miles.—A. Woodman, Christchurch, 1, J. A. Kartou, 2, R. J. Jones, Palmerston North. 3. A. Boag and J. Dawber also started. Won by 10 yards. Time 10.0 3-5.
Australasian Heavy Weight Championship, fifteen miles. —P. Coleman, Palmerston North, 1, H. R. Crawley, 2, L. UMangham, 8. The only starters, Won easily. Time 13.50 an Australasian record. North Island Y. South Island Championship Teams’ Relay Race, fifteen miles. —South Island 1, North Island 2. The teams were:— Forth Island; J. "Sweeney (Palmerston North), J. Dawber (Palmerston North), P. Coleman (Palmerston North). South Island: F. Howarth (Christchurch), A. Woodman (Christchurch), aud R. Crawley (substitute). Time 15.55 1-5.
Open Handicap, eight miles.—C. Bennington, Christchurch (OOsecs) 1. A. Woodman, Christchurch) 2, H. R. Crawley, Carterton, 3. Won by thirty yards. Time 8.55 2-5.
