THE KARIOI MURDER.
ARREST OF THE SUSPECT. (Far Presa Assoai&tAo®.} Tailmpe, Feb. 25. What appears to be like a premeditated murder is alleged to have taken place at a bush contractor’s camp at Karioi at an early hour on Sunday morning, when a man named Peter Larsen was killed bv having his head battered in while asleep by a fellow ‘.workman named Jack ‘ Robinson. It is alleged that drink b-.d been tiken into the camp, and during Saturday night the time was whiled away in a game of cards. A quarrel arose over.the game, but the men parted and went to their respective beds. Sometime after Larsen went to sleep, and it is said that Robinson came with some heavy weapon and struck tlie sleeping man a terrible blow, killing him instantly, as there was no evidence of a sou hie. Robertson was arrested at Kunoi and taken to Ohakune, where lie ■was remanded till to-morrow.
An inquest was opened, which was also adjourned till Tuesday.
