DEFENSE EXPENDITURE INQUIRY.

Per Press Association! Palmerston N., Fob. 22. At to-day’s sitting of tho Defence Expenditure Commission, evidence was given hy Capt. Txa.sk (Faymaster), vSergt. Instructor v\. Mi'.mcll, Sergt. Instructor H. H. Davies and Captain McDonnell, Commander of No. 0 Group. ihe latter stated that ho considered all men called up for service should be dealt with hy tho Group Officers instead of being under the dual control of tho Group Office and the Director-General of Becuiting. Ho thought tho Group Commander should be tho military representative in each district before the Appeal Board. He drew attention to the fact that in some districts where a major was Brea officer was a Group Commander who whs a captain and who was over tho area officer.
