A RETURNED SOLDIER IN TROUBLE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 21. A returned soldier, Joseph Mauliffe, alias Joseph Henry Turner, has been committed for trial on a charge of knowingly signing a false name on a military paysheet. The accused, ina statement made* to the police, said nis name wasr Manliffe, and he had enlisted iu. Auckland in December, 1914. He* went to Egypt, and from thence wasr invalided to England, where he met an Australian soldier named Maxwellwho was detailed to returnto Australia. Maxwell did not desire to return, and gave Manliffe* his boat ticket and papers, with, permission to use the pnpers and sign his pay sheet in Australia. Ho lisd signed Maxwell’s name and obtained £2.
