HALCOMBE NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. The school picnic came off on Friday last, the weather conditions being good. A great crowd of people were present, and the proceedings p> aRSOC f off a manner which seemed to indicate that the affair was a success, so far as such things can be so termed. The various contests, both children's and adults’, were well everyone seemingly securing prizes of one sort or another. An interesting event was tin; unveiling of the noli of Honour board, the ceremony being performed by Mr A. I). Burchum, late chairman of the ioc.T School Committee.

Mr Henry Cornioot is at present confined to Ills hod as the result of an accident while mustering sh ep on Mondav last.

Private J. Adam, w N o lately returned from the front after throe years’ campaigning, met with what might have proved a most serious accident a few days ago. Being on a short holiday in Canterbury ho went shooting with some com panions. A rabbit having been put up between two of the party, both fired, and Private Adam being in the line of lire received part of the charge of shot in the loft hand. Luckily the wounds are not serious, though painful. Evidently all the bad shooting is net done at the var. Private George McElrcy, second son of Mr Onen McElroy, who has been in Prance “doinghis bit, ’’ and who was rather seriously wounded, arrived home .this week, looking very fit and well Mr Douglas Hoskiu, licensee of the Halcombo Hotel, is seriously ill with pleurisy, his condition causing some anxiety.
