THE MARKETS.
CANTERBURY CROPS.
CPer Press Association.)
Christchurch, January. 33.
There have been no samples ofuovv wheat yet shown on the market, but some thrashing is expected to be done during the week. It is apparent that there will be some disappointment in regard to the yield of a number of the wheat crops. It has been found that although the heads are well grown there is no grain in them, and there are instances where whole paddocks are affected in both North and South Canterbnrj*. The cause is unknown, and the loss will not bo definitely ascertained until thrashing takes place. The prices are unchanged. There is little.business being done in early crop potatoes at £1 os at country stations, for delivery within a week or two. The crops along the coast north of Christchurch arc not as healthy as they might bo, having apparently been affected by the recent easterly damp weather. There is a little inquiry for new oatshoaf Chaff, at £4, for immediate delivery, and £3 !0s for forward delivery, and £3 10s for forward delivery at country stations.'
