AMENDED MARION BY-LAWS.
INTERESTING TO MOTOR GAR OWNERS. A depot’lion from the Mar ton Ratepayers' Association, consisting of Messrs Mogridgo, Low, Cameron,. Scott, Gorrie and Y'oung, waited on the Marton Borough Council last Monday evening to suggest alterations to the amended by-laws thatwere to be considered at tJiat meeting. The intended by-law dealing with motor cars in the principal streetsmade it an offence to leave any motor car unattended for more than thirty minutes sfc any one time inBroadway, Wellington Road, oi any adjacent streets. This, the deputation contended, would greatly inconvenience country people wishing todo their business in Marton. They considered that people should bo encouraged to come into Marton and a by-law to this effect would only harrasa car owners. The deputation suggested that the Council! should, for motorists’ convenience, allot space for car stands in parts-of Broadway, Bollett Street; High Strrfet and Wellington Road, and this suggestion was very favourably received by the Council. A further by-law of interest to the local traders and the protccinon of the public generally was the- 000 dealing with itinerant traders. These trailers, it wrs contended, were no source of revenue to the town and only came to dispose of goods that could not ho sold elsewhere. The public were ofbsa had. The deputation suggested that a license fee of £lO should lie-charged and this to be refunded if! a trader became a bona fide shopke-spe-r after three months of trading. The Council also promised to give this matter their favoYsrable consideration.
