MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.
The members of the First Wellington Military Service Board—Messrs D. G. A. Cooper, S M., 13. McLaren and W. Perry—sat at Martou this morning. Captain Welker was also present. Vomer Clements Nichoils, (Mr Davis), Tailiape, garage proprietor, adjourned from November, stated that ho had been unable to sell his business. H» wus a single man,and his parents were independent. Appeal dismissed and leave granted till flth April. , Francis White, draper, Tailiape. Leave granted till Ist May. Alexander Black, ploughman, Martou. The "father-stated that ids youngest son, George, goes into camp on February (sth, and Alexander was the only boy left. Two boys had been killed and one wounded on active service.—Board reservedits decision sine die and appellant was exempted from military service in the meantime. Charles Jones, milk vendor, Martou, claimed that be was not a reservist, as he was IT years of age.— Appeal allowed. - Dugald McLachlan shearer, Hunterville, [appe-dod Zc:< the grounds of undue hardship and public interest. —Leave granted till Dth April. John Collsi, butcher, Mungawcka. —Leave"granted'iill 28th May. Robert Harold Yaney, dairy farmer, *Hnntorville.—To_/go into camp on f! tlx February.
Nicholas Edward •sßeardou, farm hand, Tailiape.—Appeal dismissed. Francis Stuart Thurston, lino operator, JJartun.— Appeal allowed.
Henry Edwards, stationer, Bulls, appealed on undue hardship.—Appeal allowed: in Class B. William John Ellery, farmer, Bulls, appealed on all grounds. Appellant* did not answer when his Heine was called, aod the appeal was dismissed. The Chairman reprimanded appellant on his appearance, and stated that it was only at the express wish of his colleagues tint he re-heard the ciso.
Appellant stated ho was married, To years of age, and had a family of eight children. —Appeal allowed; transferred to Class F. William Robert Rice, barman, Tailiape. Appeal allowed; transferred to Class C.
Arthur Uamley Eliery, farmer, Bulls.—Appo 1 allowed: transferred to ( lass E.
Albert Ashby, farm manager, Poukiore. and WiilDm Robinson Jack, Huntervillc, certified as C 3; formally dismissed. Lewis Henry 'Wright, farm labourer, Mar ton.—ln camp: appeal dismissed.
John Murray, hank clerk. —, Marlon. —Appeal allowed; transferred to Glass G.
John Edison, builder, Halcomhe. —Appeal adjourned till production of second child’s.certific te.
Amos Frederick Phippen, drover, Marten. *dpoal dismissed, Ch sides William Jepson, farmer, Mangawoka, appealed on all grounds.—Appellant was married, had no children, and worked a dairy farm of 45 acres, with Ills wife. He owned a number of implements and worked for the farmers’ in the district.—Adjourned to next sitting..
Henry Harvey’s appeal was transferred to Wellington. William Alexander Davidson, farmer, Mangaweka, appealed on tho ground of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant state’d lie worked a f.-rm of 400 acres, carrying 1300 ewes and l-.mbs, and (52 head of cattle. —Adjourned to next sitting. William Millan, sawmill hand, Hihitahi. Adjourned till July sittings. Charles Henry Signal, dairy farmer,'Rata.—Leave granted till 20th May. Andrew William Coleman, dairy firmer, Poukioro, stated that he owned a farm of 20T acres, and milked 43 cows by machines. He also managed his mother’s farm where 37 cows were milked by band. Both farms carried a number of heid of stock.—Decision adjourned sine die.
