MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.
■ The members of the First Wellington Military Service .Board'—Messrs D. G. A. Cooper, S M., D. McLaren and W. Perry—sat at Marten this morning. Captain Walker was also present. Vernor Clements Nicholls, (Mr Davis), Tail)ape, garage proprietor, adjourned from November, stated that he had been unable to sell his business. He was a single man, and his parents were independent. Appeal dismissed and leave granted till 9th April. Francis White, draper, Taihape. Leave granted till Ist May. Alexander Black, ploughman, Martou. The "father stated that his youngest sou, George, goes into camp on February 6th, and Alexander was the only boy left. Two boj's had been killed and one wounded on active (service. —Board reservedits decision sine die and appellant was exempted from military service in the meantime. Charles Jones, milk vendor, Marton, claimed that he was not a reservist, as ho was 47 years of age.— Appeal allowed. Dugald McLachlan, shearer, Huntervilla, “on the grounds of undue hardship and public interest. —Leave granted till 9th April. John Collsi, butcher, Mangaweka. —Leave|grauted®till 28th May. Robert Harold o Yaney, dairy farmer, Hunterville. — go into damp on 6th February. Nicholas Edward Reardon, farm hand, Taihape.—Appeal dismissed. Francis Stuart Thurston, lino operator, Marton.—Appeal allowed. Henry Edwards, stationer, Bulls, appealed on undue hardship.—Appeal allowed; in Class B. William John Ellery, farmer, Bulls, appealed on all grounds. Appellant* did not answer when his name was called, and the appeal was dismissed. The Chairman reprimanded appellant on his appearance, and stated that it was only at the express wish of his colleagues that he re-heard the case. Appellant stated he was married, 85 years of age, and had a family of eight children.—Appeal allowed; transferred to Class F. William Robert Rice, barman, Taihape. Appeal allowed; transferred to Class 0. Arthur Hamley Ellery, farmer, Bulls.— Appeal allowed; transferred to Class E. Albert Ashby, farm manager, Ponkiore, and Willism Robinson Jack, Hunterville, certified as 02; formally dismissed. ’ Lewis Henry Wright, f.-.rm labourer, Martou.—ln camp; appeal dismissed. John Murray, bank clerk.—, Martou. —Appeal allowed; transferred to Class 0. John Neilsou, builder, Ealcombe. —Appeal adjourned till production of second child’s certificate. Amos Frederick Phippen, drover, Merton. —Adpoal dismissed. Ch =rles William Jepson, farmer, Mangaweka, appealed on all grounds.—Appellant was married, had no children, and worked a dairy farm of 45 acres, withvhis wife. He owned a number of implements and worked for the farmers in the district. —Adjourned to next sitting. Henry Ernest Harvey’s appeal was transferred to Wellington. William Alexander Davidson, farmer, Mangaweka, appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant stated he worked a farm of 400 acres, carrying 1300 ewes and limbs, and 62 head of cattle.—Adjourned to next sitting. William Millan, sawmill hand, Hihitahi.—Adjourned till July sittings. Charles Henry Signal, dairy farmer, Rata.—Leave granted till 29th May, Andrew William Coleman, dairy farmer, Poukiore, stated that he owned a farm of 207 acres, and milked 43 cows by machines. He also managed his mother’s farm where'37 cows were milked by hand. Both farms carried a number of head of stock.—Decision adjourned sine die. Court adjourned till 10 a.m. tomorrow.
