SCOTT'S FERRY.
A good deal of "erosion has taken place on the river bank during the last few weeks several more trees have fell into the water including one that compleely blocks the drain. If'these trees were wired to prevent .their being washed away together they might form some protection to the' banks and it is suggested that the campers might take the work in Imid as some return for the benefit they enjoy in being allowed to camp at this spot. A large contingent from Ohakea swelled the numbers at the Ferry this week but the camn is not what is was. “Buccaneer Morgan” lias denarted for his ancestral halls'' and “Bluo Bird” is hoard no more. The work on the beach is about completed and it is now in first class order. A number of people visited the beach by tins means on Tuesday and spent a pleasant day fishing and bathing. Some of them were quite enthusiastic about the fine views obtained. For the information of visitors it might be mentioned that a road a clnin wide lends from the Ferry gates to the beach and this is the only public ground in the vicinity, Some people aro under the impression that a right of way exists along tho river b i »nk. but this is said to ho quite incorrect and people who leave the. road trespass at the pleasure of Mr Amon tho owner of tho property through which the road passes. A good deal of trawling was done at the heads on Tuesday but fish were scarce only about fifteen Kswhai and a few flounders being netted. A good deal of fun was caused by some of tho Kawhai escaping from the net and being caught by hand in shallow water, a leather merchant from Bulls was quite adept at the game and showed old football form taking a pass of a live fish from the comedy artist in great style. It is also said that he collected enough tanned hide to last him for some time. Various members of tho party distinguished themselves by falling out of the boat, falling' into the boat, (not much better as it contained some inches of water) and getting wet generally. The Bull’s School Committee are expected on the bench on Sunday' to make arrangements for the school picnic to take place on Wednesday. The skipper of tho “Green Stripe” has not been hosting lately it is reported that the fish over the bar are hungry again and anxiously await his return.
