INAUGURATED AT NAPIER.
Tho Mauawatu Times says : What was described today as the inaugnra- ■ tion of a now political party, took place at the Municipal Theatre last evening, when Ur. Thacker addressed one of tho most 'successful political meetings ever h id in Rapier, Dr. Thacker, who is on his first prolonged visit to Rapier, was new blood to a local audience, and as a man who acted in accord with the Rapier member, Mr Vigor Brown, in bis policy of obtaining justice for the .men having to fight for their country, was p irtioutarly accept .bio to a Rapier audience. After receiving tho warmest reception from u picked house, Dr. ■ Thicker proceeded to deal with dedefence matters in his usu I vigorous style, giving particular attention to the dictums of the Defence Department: “Don’t go near Thacker,” and “Hands off my officers.” The speaker’s references to defence scandals were heartily applauded and his declaration that ho would fight Mr Herdman s seat in Wellington Rorth with his man, Poison, was tho signal for loud applause, which was also evoked on his reading a telegram from Mr Poison “All going well Wellington Rorth. ” -At the conclusion of the meeting. resffUit.ipps were p ssed expressing the opinion that the time had arrived i o" ***' " Allan dmnUi hutuL* when bir uames . ... in his resignation as Minister of Defence, as they had no confidence fn him; that the so-called Rational Government should resign; and that the meeting viewed with alarm the continued increase in tho gcost gef living and looks on such i acre iso as nothing less than a u .tionul calamity and e lls on the Government to stop the exploitation going on ru the interest of the wealthier classes of the" Dominion. Yesterday Dr. Thacker addressed tho Waikaromonr League.- At tho meeting of delegates, after tho address, comment was made on the unreliability of the promises of. the present members of th* Ministry, and instances wore given in regard to tho subject of hydro-electric schemes tlono. The League is having a potent influence in moulding public opinion in Hawke’s Bay as to the present Government
