THE MOA’S CAPTAIN’S STORY. (Per Frees Association.) Auckland, Dec 22. Captain Francis, of the scow Rangi, who gave the first information of the capture of the Moa, states: We left Mayor Island on Saturday at 6 p.m. and was off Mercury Bay when we saw the scow Moa rouud-to. The launch, in which the Gorman prisoners had escaped, was alongside the Moa. lie knew the Germans had escaped from Motuihi and concluded that they had taken possession of the Moa. Wo were four or five miles away at the time, but as far as I could see there was not a struggle. Shortly after the Moa sailed away under a press of canvass and I at once made for Port Charles, to report the occurrence.
