A very cold snap with intermitent showers has been experienced in Taihape dnring the past two or three d -tA r s. On Wednesday morning a very heavy frost was recorded, by whicn potato crops were completely cut down and crops'of be ms, pumpkins and tomatoes were absolutely destroyed. Frosts often occur locally at this time of the year, but nothing as severe as Wednesday morning’s has been experienced for years. The results of the proficioncj 05aminations at the Taihape- School show that thirteen pupils secured proficiencies and two were successful in gaining competency. Local shopkeepers will observe holidays on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and at new year January Ist and 2nd will bo full holidays. The fine picture theatre erected by Mr T. E. Wilson on the site of the old King’s Theatre, which was destro3 7 ed by fire last year, will be opened this Thursday evening. The new building is highly creditable to the town, andjgit speaks'/well for the owner’s confidence in the progress of the district.
