HUNTERVILLY PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the above Society was held on Monday night. There were present:—Messrs J. Bull, ch ,ir. Ironmonger, J. Chisholm, D. Morrison, W. Morton, A. Theed, H. M rtiu, W. H. Maclean, C. Ellis, Key. Grove, J. Wilson and G. Watt. The Secretary Rangitikei Patriotic Society wrote asking that the. Huniorville Society co-operate in the matter of urging the Government to provide an adequate water supply for the Puterino Settlement.—To be informed thnt this Committee had already taken steps. Two applications for Rata for assistance were declined in view of the Government raising the assistance to soldiers from £SOO to £750. Mr Bull said that he h:d met Mr Newman, M. P. , ;-ttho Settlement, and they had discussed the position with the majority of the settlers. Several were of the opinion that the increase to £750 did not extend to the Puterino Block, but Mr Newman thought it did, and made inquiries, the result of which was a wire from Mr Massey stating that the grant of £750 applied to all soldiers’ settlements, but each application must be dealt with on' its merits.

The Secretary reported that the carrying business has resulted in a profit of £6 2s Sd.—Mr Chisholm was thanked for his secretarial work in connection with the carrying business. H. H. Martin wrote resigning his position ss a member of the Executive .due to bis approaching departure from the district. He complimented the Committee on the excellent work it had done since the inception of the war, and also on the harmony that characterised its meetings. The Chairman said tint Mr Martin had been a member since the inception of the Society, and had helped in every fiossible way to achieve the best results. The speaker said he was sure he voiced the opinion of every member when he said they were sorry Mr Martin was going away. Mr Martin, in reply, said it had been a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic and harmonious body as the committee. Mr C. Ellis was appointed to the vacancy on the Executive caused by Mr Martin’s resignation. Thepext meeting of the committee was fixed for January 28th.—Express.
