AND MERCANTILE REPORT. «■—w— ' < At Palmertston North cn Wednesday, 10th inst., the Associated Auctioneers held their first annual ball Fair. Some 200 animals of tho various breeds were yarded. Competition for all clasas of Shorthorn bulla was wall maintained throughout hut the other breeds were not in demand and prices for these suffered somewhat. We quote: —Syr ped. milking Shorthorn bulls 30 guineas to 34 guineas, 2yr Fed. milking Shorthand hulls 21 guineas to 33 guineas, yearling pedigree Shorthorn bulls ~19 to 40 guineas., yearling grade Shorthorns to 25 guineas, 2yr grade Shorthprna 15 to 18K guineas, 4yr pedigree Friesian bull 41 guineas, Syr pedigree Jersey bulla 10 to 14 guineas, yearling pedigree Jersey bulls 7 to 8 guineas. Dalgety and Co., Palmerston North, report having a small entry of stock at their Huntervillo sale on Tuesday, the 9th inst. Quotations: ■ —Fat shorn ewes 36s lOd. A pen of 103, and bullocks sold at £ls ss. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Lid., Wanganui report as follows:—On Wedneday the 10th October we held our first sale in Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s, Wanganui ssloyards. Before the sale commenced, the manager, Bar John Stevenson, made a few remarks to the public, who were present in good numbers, stating that the Company had arranged to hold fortnightly sales from today and that they had acquired an interest in Messers Dalgety and Co, ’s, yards, He trusted that by strict attention to business the Company hoped to receive a fair share of support, and that the fact of the two catalogues, thereby at trading buyers from up and down the coast as well local operators. This would canse competition and better prices. He then formally introduced the Company’s Auctionaers, Messrs Cooper and Williams, and intimated that Mr Cooper would conduct the sale today. In the absence of Mr Herdman, manager for Dalgety and Co., Mr Lees, auctioneer, spoke a few words of welcome to Mr Cooper, and expresses bis confidence in the two firms working in harmony. A good yarding of both sheep and cattle met with keen competition, with the exception of grown bullocks, which failed to reach owner’s ideas of value. For sheep and alt other cattle we report a total clearance. Prices were as follows:—3 year steers £ll 18s,J2yr steers £lO 15s, cows and calves £9 9s, yearling heifers, good £6 7s to £7 93, heifers with shown cnlves£7 17s 6d, woolly hoggets 27s 6d to 345, wethers 36s,shorn hoggets, good 80s 3d.
