FRANCE AFTER THE WAR.
The French Government Is energetically taking measures to hasten the national recovery from the exhaustion of tJie war. A Bill, of which the provisions are being keenly criticised, has been introduced to the Chamber, to provide tor compensation of the owners of the property devastated or damaged during the conflict. A committee has been appointed by the provision of agricultural machinery for purposes ot tillage, the financial aid to be given to the cultivators, and thier instruction in the use of the machines. Special attention is to be given to the needs of small proprietors and to the question what types of machinery are most suitable for their use; for the agricultural holdings exceeding 40 hectares (about 100 acres) number only 138,000 out of 5,688,000, or less than 2}£ per cent, of the total. Finally, another committee has been appointed by the Minister of Public Works to deal with the means of encouraging foreign travel, primarily in the war zone, on the conclusion of peace.
