RONGOTEA NOTES.

(Prom Onr Own Correspondent). The following articles for our boys at I,he front have been despatched by tbe Rongotea and District Red Cross Gnild to tbe Conntess of Liverpool Fund :—4O sets pjyamas, 6 flannel vests, 101 surgical towels,. 13 bed jackets, 1 dressing gown, 4 pairs sheets, 37 pairs day suocks, 10 pillow slips, 62 handkerchiefs, 5 balacavas, 19 headbandages, 7 waistcoats, 4 helpless coats, 58 swabs, 1 chest proj tector, 25 treasure bags, 5 cholera bolts, 1 pair mittens, 13 towels, 3 pair bed socks, 1 pair flannel drawers, 29 washers, 14 eye bandages, 6 many-tailed bandages, 576 rolled bandages, 5 scarves. Tbe above box was conveyed free of charge to tbe railway, Palmerston North,, by Mr H. Pi Sander’s motor lorry. Rongotea Dairy Co-op. are paying out la 6d per lb. for butter-fat for last month.

At tire meeting of the Red Cross Gnild the secretary read the following letter from the secretary of the Countess of Liverpool Fund:—“T am directed by the Mayoress and my committee to thank your Rongotea residents for the help yon gave us for the Christmas parcels. I am sure the dainties sent will he much appreciated at the front.,—Yours faithfully, H. S. Crawford, Sec.

The local committee wish also to acknowledge the following additional donations:—-Mrs Slack ss, Lutheran Church 21s, Mrs Pearce (Awahuri road) 9 washers,. Mrs McGrath (Palmerston North) 1 knitted waistcoat.

Mr A. Wood, who has been head buttermaker for onr local Dairy Company, has resigned to take up a position at Rongotea. A largely-attended meeting of the Rongotea residents was held on Monday last in the Coronation Hall. Mr H." H. Hunt was voted to the chair, and explained what the meeting was called for. After several suggestions had been discussed it was unanimously decided that a monument be erected in tbe Square, near the Post Office, in memory of onr brave lads from Rongotea who had given up their lives for their King and Empire. A committee of 13 gentlemen was elected to carry out the necessary details as soon as the society ia registered- It is to be called The Rongotea Roll of Honour aud Monument Society. The lists will he opened shortly.' Quite a number of improvements in the building line nave been effect! ed in the township lately. Messrs Landers Bros, have had extensive alterations to their business premises, which are fitted with up-to-date new large grocery, cookery and ironmongery departments.
