TURAKINA NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent.

The annual concert In connection with the Sabbath School was held in the Presbyterian Church on Friday evening. The Rev. J. Wilson presided over a good audience, which nearly filled the church. The programme was varied and interesting, n. recitation and an address were given by the Rev. L. Hunt, of Marton; songs by Mrs R. J. Glasgow and Mrs N, Glasgow, and recitations, songs and hymns by the hoys and girls, under the leadership of Mrs Wilson and Mrs Franklin. The girls of the Maori Girls’ School also sung two hymns under the leadership of Mr Hamilton. The choir sung an anthem during the collection. All the different items i?.were well received, and Master Spencer Anderson, a little boy, was heartily encored for his song. Mr B. P. Lethbridge kindly donated book prizes for the examination in|Scripture and Shorter Catechism. The chairman presented the prizes to the successful scholars. The first prize in Scripture and Catechism was won by Malcolm Wilson, (he second prize in Scripture by Annie Gibson, the third prize by James Wilson, and the fourth prize by Reggie Hamilton. Special prizes ware awarded to Cathie and Millie Cameron, Miriam Lund and Eileen Whitehead. A collection °was taken up for Sabbath School purposes, and amounted to £3'Bs 6d. The chairman urged parents to take a deep interest in the moral and spiritual welfare of their children,- and to remember that the Sabbath School did not relieve them of their responsibility in the training of their children. A hearty vote of thanks was given to all who had taken part in the programme and to Mrs Lethbridge for her generosity in providing the prizes.. The singing ot the Doxology and the Benediction closed the meeting.
