SAN DOM BLOCK NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent.
1 was sorry to read among the names in the casualty list that of Corporal A. W. Booth. He was wounded in tiie arm and has since died of his wounds. He left New Zealand with the Bth Reinforcements. He was well known in this district and esteemed and respected by all whom he came in contact with. He was of a very retiring disposition, but a good citizen. His services were always freely given in any movement that pertained to the progress of the district. At the time of enlisting Corporal Booth was headmaster of the Uruumuri School, near Ohakune, His relatives reside in England. I am sorry also to learn that Trooper Leslie Tricker, who also left New Zealand with the Bth Reinforcements, is reported wounded in the knee and admitted to hospital. We all sympathise with his mother and brother and hope the wound will not prove serious. There is good news from all the rest of the boys from this district at the front so far, hut one never knows how soon a cable may come announcing the inevitable. The casualty lists have been very lengthy just lately. It has been raining continuously for the'past tew days and things are sloppy everywhere. The weather is mild and you can almost see the growth of vegetation. The cows are milking well all round and suppliers are getting good tests. Kata Dairy Company are running a motor lorry tor picking up the cream from Kewa to Rata, via Mangaonoho and Poukiore. The rain has impeded shearing.
