MEAT IMPORTERS’ GRIEVANCE.

United Press Association—By Elec trie Telegraph—Copyright. Received May 26, noon. London, May 25/

Meat importers complain that Australian and New Zealand mutton and lamb are being sold at an average of three halfpence a pound cheaper than Argentine, ostensibly in order to keen prices down. It is alleged that the Government is thereby realising twenty thousand weekly less than might be obtained. This sum is apparently going into the pockets of intermediaries and not benefiting consumers, as the retail prices are the same as the Argentine. Forced sales of colonial meat at lower prices than Argentine tend to prejudice the reputation of colonial produce to the advantage of its strongest competitor.
