TAIHAPE NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent. A swede-growing competition Ims been arranged by the Raugitikei A, and P. Association, entries to consist of 5-acre lots of swedes grown within a radius of 20 miles of Taihape, the entries closing to-day (Wednesday). The judging will be done probably early next week and those competing will be notified as to the probable time the judge will visit them. It i s expected that the entries received will he numerous. The only football match of any importance played this season eventuated last Saturday when representatives of the Pirates Club met the Railway team. The game was wholly one-sided, Pirates scoring a victorj' by 10 to nil. A collection was taken up on the ground for the Red Cross Society, the yield being £3 17s 2d. ' The special cake day at the Red Cross shop, situated in Main Street, on Saturday last proved a great success, the sum of £4 12s Od being collected. The cakes were all donated by residents of the district and town.
A serious accident occurred on the Winiata road on Sunday afternoon. Mrs Sparks, of Taibape, was walking on the road with he: 0-year old son, the boy being some little distance in advance of bis mother. A car driven by Mr Addis, coming in the opposite direction, suddenly made its appearance and caught the boy ou the middle of the road, striking him full in the face, and passing over biin. The boy was picked up and taken to Dr, McDianuid, and was found to be suffering from slight concussion and a fractured jaw. The latest report is that young Sparks is on a fair way to recovery.
