THE SHACKLETON EXPEDITION.
A DUAL SEARCH NECESSARY. R ELI AN CE ON THE AURORA. THE PARTY MUST BE SUCCOURED, Received May 24, 10 a.m. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —C opyri gh t. London, May 22. Mr D. W. Freshlield, presiding at a meeting of the Geographical Society, said a search for Shackleton must be undernken, despite the preoccupations of the war. Honour demands that a ship, men and money he found. If, as hoped, Shaekieton succeeded in his bold march prolonged detention was inevitable. Happily there were inconsiderable technical difficulties in sending a ship from New Zealand, and be hoped the Aurora was not so badly damaged as to prevent repair for this purpose, We may rely on Australia’s and New Zealand’s gallantry and scientific interest to lend what help is necessary in that sector. But there is a graver problem in the fact that nothing has been heard of the Endurance since she was at South Georgia in December, 11U4. The Weddel Sea was one of the must treacherous, but a search must be undertaken.
