Bryce was lined 10s and lid costs for driving a motor car over the railway crossnig in front of an approcthing train, Jas. Pratt was ordered to ay £2 11s and and costs for failing to connect his remises with, tha Feilding drainage system. James Fitzpatrick, licensee of Halcomhe Hotel, gwas charged with supplying liquor to Gerald Griffen, farmer of Taihape, while in a state of drunkeduess. Griffen in his evidence said he did not know wh»t his condition was when he 'arrived at the Halcomhe Hotel, or during the three days he remained there or when he returned to Taihape. It was shown that during those three days that Griffen had signed cheques for £137. These cheques were dishonoured, on the grounds that the signatures were unlike. The day after Griffen returned home, Fitzpatrick called on at his house in Taihape, and after a conversation, at which Griffon’s housekeeper was present, another cheque for £77 was given by Griffen to Fitzpatrvick.

Mrs Dymock, Griffon's housekeeper, objected at the time to the cheque being signed, and it was owing to her intervention that this cheque was also dishonoured. Charles Cuff and James Fraser gave evidence to show that Griffen was in a state of intoxication while in Halcombe.

For the defence it was asserted that Griffen was sober J when he armed at Halcombe, and that he remained sober, though he acted like a jolly good fellow Jfcy shouting for everyone at hand. One cheque for £IOO, it was stated, was a gift to the licensee’s child.
