Wellington, May 28. Recruiting for the 17th Reinforcements for the week ending the 19th May was quite satisfactory, and it is evident" that this draft, will go into camp next week at full strength. The official figures are as follows: Group 1, Auckland City, plus 188. Group 3, Paeroa, shortage 28,
Group 8, Whangarei, shortage 7. Group 4, Hamilton, shortage 8(5,
Total surplus for Auckland Military District, (12. Group 5, Wellington City, shortage 8. Group 0, Palmerston North, shortage 21.
Group 7, Napier, shortage 61. Group 7a, Masterton, shortage nil. Group 8, Hawera, plus 15. Total shortage for Wellington Military District, 75.
Group 9, Christchurch City, shortage 54. Group 10, Timaru, plus 30. Group 11, Kaiapoi, shortage 10. Group 11, Greyouth, shortage 26, Group 13, Nelson, plus 1. Total shortage for Canterbury Military Disrict, 69. Group 18, Dunedin City, plus 6. Group 14, Invercargill, shortage 11. Group 15, Oamaru, shortage 30. Group 6, Milton, plus 7. Total shortage for Otago Military District, 27, Total Dominion shortage for the 17th Reinforcements 100, as compared with a shortage of 463 on the corresponding day last week. In addition to the 858 men who were registered for the 17th Reinforcements in the week, 85 men .were sent into camp to make good the shortage of previous drafts, and 70 went to Trentham to make good shortages arising from wastage in camp. The total shortage at date — Friday 19th inst —for the 17th and previous reinforcements is 380, or less than half the number of men who were recruits in the preceding seven days.
