P. AND T. OFFICERS’ CONFERENCE.
Per Press Association, Wellington, May 23. The Post and Telegraph Officers’ Conference adoted the following further resolutions: — “That this Conference urge that all positions tailing vacant (including those of high officiials) be advertised in the usual way; that the Conference ask the Commissioner if the refusal of the Department to allow’ an officer to take up a better position in another department does not defeat the ends of the Public Service Act, 19x3; that the Conference is of opinion that the recent grading by the general division does not do f.iustice to or provide avenues of promoition for these officers who are prepared to qualify euducatioually and technically for higher positions; that the Commissioner be asked to set out the position of officers as regards seniority on romotiou from the general to the clerical division; that junior letter carriers stationed at home he given an allowance, seeing that their duties are largely interchangeable with carriers getting double their salaries; that the constitution of the Appeal Board be so altered as to allow of a stipendiary magistrate «f wide official experience being chairman; that this Association is of opinion that all appeals should he heard with open doors; that the number of public holidays granted to officers in various branches should be equalised; that offiers requiring sick leave as the result of their official environment should hs granted annual leave without deduction.
