During the month of April eight canes of i infectious diseases were treated at the Taihape Hospital, two being diphtheria, three scarlet fever, one typhoid, one erysipelas and one infantile paralysis. On Monday last a boardinghouse at Matarna. owned hy Mrs McCulloi h. naiTowiv escaped destruction by i'lv. (•. ti- was discovered in a hack bedroom, and with groat rapidity it spread to an adjoining room. An impromptu bucket brigade put in some good work, and was success ful in extinguishing the outbreak «fter two rooms wore severely damaged, it is understood that the damage is covered by insurance. The fly-wheel of the suction gas engine, erected recently at the Taihape power house weighs 10 tony. A great deal of trouble was experienced in landing the wheel at the fiower house. One item of'the business set down for hearing at the Wanganui .Supremo Court on Tuesday is the public examination of the Taihapo bankrupt, H B. Duncan At Friday’s meeting of the Taihape Borough Council the Finance Committee recommended that the loan of £!!i7)00 at A l -7 percent., from the Bank of Now Zealand, by gone on with, and the recommendation was adopted. The liangitikei A. and P. Association’s application for the use of the Town tlall for its winter show on .Inly T.Uh an i :10th, was considered at the last meeting of the Borough Council, the application being granted. The rental received will be handed by the Council to the Patriotic Society.

A second hand dealer’s licen.su was '►ranted by the Borngh Council, at its last meeting, to J. Mortlaml, of Taihape. Councillor Bennett stated that ho did not approve of the pnnicple of granting second-hand licenses in small communities.

During the past two weeks the, Taihape reservoir has boon thoroughly cleaned out, and „thore is now in it a depth of four feet of water. This depth of water easily eclipses anything for many mouths. On Wednesday evening Croup Commander Lieut, A. Martin Roberts inspected No. 4:5 Coy. .Senior Cadets, D Coy, .Regiment »nd the Taihape Defence Rifle Club. Of No. 451 Coy. 5(5 were on parade and the inspecting ellieer expressed himself as well pleased with their appearance, likewise the D Coy.. 137 of whom were present. He regretted that the Department was unable to supply all the uniforms required. Thu Lieutenant addressed the members of the Rifle Club, and impressed upon rhem the advisability of enrolling returned soldiers as members.

The many friends of Air H. O’CaMaghnn, of Taihape. will regret to learn that, he is at present aenonsly ill, ami is an inmate of the Taihape Hospital.
