WAR PENSIONS BILL.

Melbourne, May 22, In the House of Representatives, Mr Higgs, in introducing an increase of the War Pensions Bill, warned members favouring a bigger increase that the financial position would not allow it.- The Australian war loan indebtedness at the end of June, 1917, would be 109 millions, whereon the interest would be approximately five millions, besides £55,000 towards the proposed sinking fund to extinguish the debit. There would also be the interest on money borrowed to pay Britain for equipping and maintaining Australian troops abroad. If the Commonweath was sufficiently prosperous in future, peasious might be further increased.
