GENERAL GORRINGE MOVES FORWARD. POSSIBLE END OF INACTION. London, May 12. Official—General Lake reports that on the 19th the enemy vacated Bethaiessa and advanced positions on the right bank of the Tigris. General Govringe followed up and attacked and carried Dujailah redoubt The enemy is till holding the Sannaiyat position on the left bank. AFFAIRS AT SALON ILx A, THE VARDAR IN FLOOD. ENEMY DESERTIONS. London, May 22. A Salonika message states that tbe rise of the river Vardar lias apparently destroyed tbe Strumnitza bridge which tbe Germans rebuilt. There has been a violent three days’ cannonading west of the Vardar, but storms have interrupted communications with the front.

Mr Calvert, at Salonika, says there are increasing desertions of |fhe enemy. Greek frontier garrisons state that there are large transfers ol Bulgars to the Roumanian from the Macedonian frontier, due to continued shortage of rations, though the Germans are well fed. The officers fear to confront the Bulgars except in groups as the exasperated and hungry soldiers are liable to shoot when encountering them singly.—Sydney Sun cable.
