A representative meeting of members of local bodies Jof the Wanganui district was held to-night 1 to discuss the Recruiting Board's circular. , On .the motion of the Mayor it was unanimously resolved: “That this meeting is of opinion than can he obtained by voluntary service and that if satisfactory re sui ts be not achieved under present scheme urges the Government that the exigencies of,the military \ situation demand greater eflfotrs to follow the led of Great Britain and establish some form of compulsory service in the Dominion.” A second motion moved by Mr W. A. Yeitch MP.. that wealth and war properties should be 'taxed on a graduated scale to meet the cost of the war was also unanimously carried. It was decided in the interim to* ' use all efforts to stimnlae recruiting-. !
