HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.

Per Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 29.

The following is the High Commissioner's cable dated London, Nov. 27th. Note.—Quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on the spot:— Meat—The market continues dull at lower prices except for ewes, for reasons already given last week. Mutton Canterbury 7d lb for light weight, heavy weight 6%d. There are only a few other brands than Canterbury available, and they are not quoted. Ewes, in good demand, 5%d. Lamb—Canterbury twos per lb, heavy weight fours ■ 7d, secondclass light weight 7%d; other brands than Canterbury 7%d for best quality lightweight; ordinary quality 6^d. Beef—New Zealand beef, secondclass quality, hinds fores 4%d; chilled beef, a moderate supply, hinds 7%d, fores s>£d. Butter—The market is firm, with a good demand for best quality. Danish, market quiet, but firm, per cwt, 178 sto 182 s; Siberian,'* 138 sto 184 s; Irish creamery, supplies are decreasing, 158 s to 1645; Australian, 158 sto 164 s ; good to fine, 154 s to 1565; unsalted, 160 s to 1665; New Zealand, Otaki shipment has already been sold at 162 s to 1665; good to fine. 158 s to 160 s; Argentine, 156 s to 160 s; unsalted, 160 s to 1665. Cheese —The market is advancing steadily. Canadian, strong market, very little else offering, white and coloured, per cwt, 90s to 925; English cheddar, firm market, 98s to 100 s; Cheshire, 106 s to 110 s for fine to finest; United States, a good demand, 84s to 88s; Siberian, a good demand, 80s to 82s; low grade, 78s; New Zealand, nothing offering. Hemp—The market is rather quiet. Buyers are cautious. New Zealand good fair, per ton, on spot, £BS 10s; fair, £BB 10s; Manila, new graded fair, £42: coarse, £34; January to March shipment; New Zealand good fair £BS, fair £88; Manila new graded fair £4l 10s, coarse £33 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 28,000 bales. Wheat—The market is steady, with an improved demand. Canadian on spot per quarter 565, November to December shipment 545, Australian to arrive in January 60s. Oats—The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker, Argentine, on spot, per quarter, 81s; November to December shipment, 80s. Wool—The market is strong.
