FEILDING SPRING MEETING
.FIRST DAY. The weather conditions yesterday morning were far from favourable for the first day of Feildmg Jockey Club’s spring meeting. Towards midday however it considerably improved and by the time the first race came on the conditions were everything that could be desired, exdbpt perhaps that the track was. a bit heavy. The fields were all large and the racing of a high order. As usual the arrangements were well in hand, the secretary having done eSferythiug to ensure smooth running. The amount put through the totalisator was £18,521, compared with £17,125 for the first day last year. Results: — Aorangi Trial Plate, five furlongs —3 Interlude 1, 4 Tango 3, 6 Bjorneborg 3. Also ran: 5 Trickery, 7 Arras, 10 Coral King, 3 Need, 11 Topsy, 1 Poiieke, 8 Headland, 9 Quinn’s Post and 13 MabzoltoV. Trickery, Topsy and Coral King got badly left, while Interlude led the field all the way, and won easily. Time, Imin 4sec. Flying Stakes, six furlongs—6 Heather 1, 11 Coropett 3, 13 Orleans 3. Also ran: 5 Postillion, 3 Play Off, 7 Denise Orme, 1 Ardent, 9 Black Lqpin, 4 Waiorewa, 2 Botanist, 10 Hushabye, 8 Kaniki, 13 Want, 7 Happiness, Want was left at the post. Happiness, Heather, Postillion and Hushabye were first to show out. Postillion was first into the straight, where Heather took command, and after a great finish beat Coropett by a head, with Orleans a neck away. Time, Imin 18sec.
St. Andrew’s Handicap, miles —7 Maniaroa 1. 8 Square Deal 2,2 Imarose 8. Also ran; 6 Sir Solo, 0 Tangihou, 1 Montana, 4 Goldstream, 10 Combustion, 5 Gold Fran, 3 Prince Laddo. Imarose was first, out, closely followed by Combustion, Square Deal and Mauiaroa in that order, Montana beading the rest. Once in the straight Maniaroa and Square Deal went to the front and a good finish saw Maniaroa land a winner by half a length, third horse a length and a half away. Time, 3min 42sec. -
Spring Hurdles, two miles—2 Master Strowan 1, 4 Flingot 3, 6 Glenorchy 3. Also ran; 3 Aruake, 1 Nanpata, 5 Parewanui, 7 Fagot. Parewanui led the field for the first mile, where Master Strowan took the lead, and was never afterwards headed, winning easily by four lengths. Time, 4min 6sec. Waituna Hack Hurdles, miles —8 Kauwairoa 1, 4 Epworth 2, 7 Cyra 3. Also ran: 1 St. Gate, 3 Agatha Green, 4 Rongora, 10 Kurapotangi, 2 White Plume, 0 Yladin, 9 Abercoed, 11 Ringey. St. Gate and White Plume were-first out, while Kauwairoa was left a few lengths, but soon made up lost ground. At the back Epworth was in front, but tiie winner came through in the straight and won easily by three and a half lengths, a head separating-second and third. Time, 2min 53sec. Tenth Feilding Stakes, five furlongs—4 Egypt 1, 3 Nystad 3,2 Tmo atua 3. Also ran; 1 Bimeter. 5 Chakwana, 8 Avon Pare, 9 Rangitero. 10 Flying Spur. 7 Probation, 6 Rockbound. Great difficulty was experienced in getting the horses to line up, but after one false start they got away together. Tino Atua was in front and held her position till well in straight for home, when Nystad and Egypt moved up, and after a good finish Egypt won by half a length, a neck separating second and third. Time, Imiu 3sec. Kiwitea Welter, one mile and 54 yards—l 3 Crawford 1, 1 Lady Amai 2,2 Purselilier 3. Also ran; 17 Master Lupin, 5 Jem, 15 Wild Lupin, 4 His Eminence, 9 Princess Montoa, 7 St. Elmu, 12 Zeus, 10 Patronale, 3 Lady Laddo, 0 Katana, 8 Austin, .11 Ineuru, 17 Hiwitapu, 20 Ceylon. Oliver got Pursefiller aw T ay in splendid style, and maintained the lead to the bend, where Crawford and Lady Amai got in front. Within a tew yards of the post Crawford got his head in front and won a great race by a head, balf a length separating second and third. Time, Imin 48sec. Fitzroy Hack, 7 furlongs—4 Mystified 1, 14 Lady Daylesford 2, 7 Black Ada 3. Also ran: 3 Seddul Bahr, 1 Rd Ribbon, 10 Bivouac, 11 Glacier, 9 Roumania, (5 The Summit, 10 Spain, 17 Ormebsy, 8 Deviation, 3 Martyress, 13 Bronk Delaval, 16 Veto, 5 Pomeroy, 18 Lady Nolan, 13 Zola, 19 Syntax, 15 Moutoa Tibi. Mystified, Deviation, Red Ribbon and Martyress were prominent for the best part of the journey, the former coming on full of running never left it in doubt, winning easily by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, Imin 30sec.

Owners and" trainers are reminded that nomination for all events at the above Olnb’s Summer Meeting (to he held on 27th, 28th and 29th December) except the Tenth Palmerston North Stakes, close on Friday, 3rd December, at 10 p.m.
